Mighty and his 7 siblings were rescued from a terrible situation. The puppies and their mom had been severely neglected when a concerned neighbor notified one of our volunteers. The dogs were not being fed properly and not provided water on a regular basis. These poor things were left starving and dehydrated for days at a time. The only shelter they had from the relentless Florida weather was underneath an old semi trailer. The neighbor agreed to work with the owner to try to get the puppies out of the ill-fated environment. After a 3 month long process, the Judy team was success in the rescue of all 8 puppies and their parents.  They have been responding very well to their crate training.  Mighty is the smallest of the bunch and has the most adorable personality. He is so affectionate and loves to be held like a baby.

  • Leash Manners Does well off and on of the leash and when on he doesn’t pull. He is fine with a collar, but currently isn’t wearing one – we just slip the leashes on all the dogs.
  • Crate/House Training He is kennel trained but we call it his Bed. He makes it through the night without any accidents and is loose in the house when we’re home, but we make it a point to take him out regularly.
  • Socialization AMAZING socially! I have two male dogs and they’re great together. I take them all to the dog park almost everyday and Mighty goes off to socialize with every other dog, human and child. Extremely friendly and affectionate.
  • Energy Level and Exercise I guess I’d have to say Moderate. We don’t have a yard so he’s limited to walks and the 30 +minutes a day at the dog park. The boys play in the house (chase each other, play tug-o-war…etc) but after even 30 minutes at the dog park he’s pretty calm and is happy to just snuggle.
  • Daily Structure and Schedule Up at 5:45am, walk, eat, play until 6:40am when he’s walked again then all dogs go in their beds/kennels. Daughter is home from school by 2:30 – 3pm and the dogs all go out for walk. Dogs are out and about until we go to the park around 5:15, dinner immediately after. Bed is usually between 9:30 - 11
  • Confidence Level In our house he is submissive to the alpha, but he is not a pushover. He’s just as good with little dogs as he is with the big ones….and although he’s extremely playful and sweet, he can hold his own.
  • Obedience Training He knows sit, his name and drop it…that’s about it
  • Behaviors he likes to eat poop, he’s a chewer but I make sure there are plenty of things around for him to gnaw on. I’ve only had a couple flip flops fall victim to him, and I should have known better than to leave them out.
  • Personality Quirks He’s so sweet and perky and very pack oriented whether at home or at the dog park which such a neat sight to see. He is still a little skittish on occasion but with all the noise and constant movement in our house it’s gotten so much better.
  • Ideal Home I would love for him to have another pet or kids in the house – he’s very pack oriented and wants needs the companionship. He likes to be close, to snuggle so I’d like to see him to go to a home where that would be appreciated and reciprocated. He’s a very well rounded little guy and I think he’d be good in just about any scenario.

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
