Description:

01/20/2015  Sadly at her young age Hope was returned after a few days of adoption.  Her owners took on to much with adopting 2 dogs, and with Hope being a puppy it was too much.  She is sweet, and would love to go with one of her siblings or alone.

Hope is a really sweet puppy.  She’s a normal rambunctious puppy right now, but I can tell she’s going to have a calm personality when she grows up.  She already has the patience to sit in your lap and just enjoy the moment.  Hope loves being carried around, and she doesn’t try to wriggle out of your arms, but she does like to watch everything that’s going on around her.  I think she’s pretty smart, because she’s always watching and testing things out slowly.  She’s not one to rush into anything.  The other puppies may blast through the door, but Hope will be the one shyly peeking around the corner. She has been very quick to catch on to potty training, too.  She eliminates outside right away when we take her in the yard. Of course, she still has accidents, but she doesn’t like to go in her pen, and never eliminates in her bed.  She’s ready for the next step of crate training.

She’s got a pretty fawn colored coat that gets darker down the middle of her back, and is almost black on her little tail. Sometimes her ears stick up like little Yoda ears, and often she has one sticking up and one flopped over, as part of her you-can’t-resist-me pose.  Her wrinkly forehead and expressive brows contribute to her sweet expression—she often looks like she’s thinking really hard, or worried about something.

Even though she is thoughtful and cautious and sweet, she still gives her brother what for when he messes with her.  When she’s had enough, she’ll knock him over and sit on him.  Then they’ll tussle for a while, and if they’re fighting over a toy, she usually wins, even though she’s smaller.  She’s all about the girl power!

***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April 1899, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
