Description:

Ears is a very sweet dog and needs someone to love him.

4/16/15 With the return of our afternoon storms we have discovered that Ears is not a fan!    He trembles and tries to cram himself under the desk.  We have started to put a thundershirt on him so hopefully that will help.

4/6/15 Foster Update:  I can't believe Ears has not been adopted.   He is so easygoing and happy and loves to have his belly rubbed.   If I comb him, he throws himself down and on his back so I will get to his tummy.    He does need to be brushed and combed and has hair as opposed to fur, so he is not shedding but will need grooming as he gets quite shaggy.   He does not mind combing and brushing and I try to do so at least once daily.   He actually gets quite relaxed.       When outside, he does tend to want to eat birdseed on the ground, dirt or chew on mulch, so we have to keep our eye on him!    We did find out that he knows "spit that out" and that he will come immediately if you whistle for him.  He really is a very smart guy!

Foster update 2/9/15:   Ears is a wonderful foster dog.   He minds his manners, is fully housetrained, loves to be petted and talked to and behaves when we leave him loose in the house at night.   He gets along with the other dogs and loves to enthusiastically greet everybody who comes in the door - even if it is one of us and we just went out two minutes ago!    He can pull his lips back like he is smiling and also likes to "talk" to us while doing so.    He does have some irritated skin on his back but we have him on a good quality, limited ingredient food, a supplement and some fish oil.   He loves to be combed and will keep nudging for more if I stop.    Ears is looking for that family to give him his furever home.   Could it be you?

Foster update 1/31/15:  We have not had Ears quite a week yet but he has been no trouble at all.   He has had no accidents in the house and has adapted well to our routines and other dogs.  We've nicknamed him Skippy because he looks like he is skipping when he runs!   He gets his pill each morning and I just put it in a bit of canned food and he gobbles it right up.   He is happy and loves to go outside with us.   He will happily cuddle on the couch but is not able to get up there on his own.   He is so happy just to be petted!   His pictures do not do him justice as he is absolutely adorable.   I am going to keep trying to get a good close up of his cute little face but he is not a good poser for the camera!    We have a Jack Russell and Ears seems like he might be Jack Russell with some Cocker Spaniel.   Just a guess!   Please consider giving Ears his forever home.   He is such a good boy!  Ears has Addison's disease and will need a daily pill and a monthly shot for the rest of his life.

Foster update 12/24/14: Ears is not completely house trained, but is very affectinate and wants lots of love and attention. He loves to sleep in the bed and a great dog to ride in the car!! All around great dog!!!

Ears was surrendered to us by his owner who could no longer care for him due to a disability and had to move in with relatives who did not want the responsibility of a pet.  Ears is very affectionate with people, dogs and cats .  Ears would be great for a mature home does not bark , jump, walks on the leash.  Would enjoy watching TV and seating on the couch .   Judy

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Jack Russell Terrier was developed in 19th century England by a clergyman named Jack Russell. This feisty little terrier was used to hunt small game, particularly fox, by digging the quarry out of its den. Breeders have emphasized its working ability, so the standard is very broad, encompassing a wide range of accepted body types. On English hunts, the Jack Russell Terriers were supposed to be long-legged enough to keep up with the hounds. The energetic and playful Jack Russell makes a good family companion. The Jack Russell Terrier is a perky, merry, devoted, and loving dog. Spirited and obedient, yet absolutely fearless. Careful and amusing, he enjoys games and playing with toys. Friendly and generally kind to children who have been taught not to tease or strike the dog. They are intelligent, yet willful and determined. They have strong hunting instincts (stronger than your average terrier) and should not be trusted with other small animals. They like to chase and explore. Be careful not to let them off the lead unless they are very well-trained. Jack Russells like to bark and dig. They tend to get restless and destructive if not kept fruitfully occupied and well exercised. Jack Russells climb, which means they can climb over a fence, they also jump. A Jack that stands 12 inches high can easily jump five feet. JRTs are not the breed for a inexperienced dog owner. This is a BIG dog in a little dogs body. The owner needs to be as strong-willed as they are, or this little guy will take over.
