ABOUT ALFIE: Alfie is a very loving, sweet boy with a beautiful fawn brindle coat and handsome green eyes. When he first came to us he was very skinny and malnourished but has since grown into a healthy and developed strong little man. He can be affectionate and gives great kisses, however, Alfie doesn't usually enjoy cuddling and prefers to lay on his own bed at your feet. He loves to work on a bone and play with toys.
Alfie has a very calming and deep spirit, with great intuition. Although he isn't one to cuddle, he has been snuggled up beside his foster mom to comfort her during a difficult time. He would be comfortable in a home with or without other pets, but is quick to nip so would probably not be a good choice for a family with young children until he is trained. His owner will need to be patient and gentle as they train Alfie. He is eager to please but can be very timid and is still afraid to go outside.
Alfie is very playful with his litter mates and is a smart dog. He shows more Bulldog traits than those of a Jack Russell or Catahoula Leopard dog, and will make an excellent companion dog to a lucky, active family.
HISTORY: This litter came to us along with their Mommy, Peaches. Their owner had two sisters who both got pregnant at the same time by the same neighbor dog and asked us for help. Luckily all 15 pups are healthy and happy. They look so different so we're unsure of the exact breed, but they will be on the medium size with short hair. Their mom looks like a big Jack Russell mix so that would be our best guess.
ABOUT THE BREED: According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Jack Russell Terrier was developed in 19th century England by a clergyman named Jack Russell. This feisty little terrier was used to hunt small game, particularly fox, by digging the quarry out of its den. Breeders have emphasized its working ability, so the standard is very broad, encompassing a wide range of accepted body types. On English hunts, the Jack Russell Terriers were supposed to be long-legged enough to keep up with the hounds. The energetic and playful Jack Russell makes a good family companion. The Jack Russell Terrier is a perky, merry, devoted, and loving dog. Spirited and obedient, yet absolutely fearless. Careful and amusing, he enjoys games and playing with toys. Friendly and generally kind to children who have been taught not to tease or strike the dog. They are intelligent, yet willful and determined. They have strong hunting instincts (stronger than your average terrier) and should not be trusted with other small animals. They like to chase and explore. Be careful not to let them off the lead unless they are very well-trained. Jack Russells like to bark and dig. They tend to get restless and destructive if not kept fruitfully occupied and well exercised. Jack Russells climb, which means they can climb over a fence, they also jump. A Jack that stands 12 inches high can easily jump five feet. JRTs are not the breed for a inexperienced dog owner. This is a BIG dog in a little dogs body. The owner needs to be as strong-willed as they are, or this little guy will take over.
