Vandy was rescued from a high kill shelter after she was abandoned VERY preganant. This beautiful sweet mama is sure to make a great companion!
Fast forward from 2013 to present day
...Vandy (renamed Zandy) was adopted over four years ago. Her journey took her from Florida to Colorado where her family relocated. Unfortunately, things did not work out for her there and after a five hour plane ride, she finds herself back in Florida once again looking for her forever family. This is what her prior adopter had to say:
We adopted Zandy 4.5 years ago. She was very timid at first towards my husband, but soon warmed up both to him and eventually to friends and family who visited. Visitors need a little time to get acquainted with her and she acts shy hanging back from them. She has always had a very sweet and gentle personality, loving to cuddle with us on the couch or floor. She loves long walks, chasing and hunting for squirrels. She loves one on one attention, and occasionally will play fetch with her self if given a squeaky toy or a rope. She does not like water, and is nervous when it rains due to the Thunderstorms often associated with rain that she is terrified of.
Zandy knows and loves to do tricks for treats at the commands of "sit" "stay" "down" "shake" "rollover" "dance" (just do a hand motion in a circle) "up" and "sit up".
As Zandy likes to get all of the attention, she would do best in home without small children. Older children are fine!
FOSTER UPDATE 1-15-18
: Vandy has been back in Florida for a few weeks now and has settled in. She can be a bit shy upon first meeting her but is quite loving once she gets to know you. She is well behaved in the house and is content curling up on the couch - once given permission to be on the couch! She gets along with my 12 year old son and loves to sleep in the bed with him. She gets along with my personal dogs too although she would probably do best with easy going dogs. (She kind of likes to be the top dog!) All in all, Vandy is an awesome layed back girl that would love a family to call her own.
According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Black and Tan Coonhound was developed by crossing the Bloodhound and Foxhound, in the United States on the basis of its colors (black and tan). Best known as a raccoon hunter, the Black and Tan Coonhound howls as he trees his quarry. The breed has also been used very successful to hunt other types of game such as bear, stag, opossum, deer and mountain lion - even on difficult terrain. It withstands well the rigors of winter as well as intense heat. Timid or nervous dogs may be disqualified from exhibitions. The official recognition dates from 1945. Some of the Black and Tan Coonhounds talent's include hunting, tracking, watchdogging, and agility. A quick-to-follow, intelligent, loyal and good-natured hunter and companion, the Black and Tan Coonhound pleases hunter and owner alike. The Black and Tan is an alert and eager dog who is very dedicated to his work. Some sources say this passionate worker is a bit aggressive, but will listen to his master. Other sources say he is gentle and friendly with people. Some individuals are protective and are a bit reserved with strangers. They are usually best with older considerate children. Sometimes they can play rough. This dog can be willful, requiring firm, patient and on-going training. They may howl if they are left alone too much. Do not let this breed off the leash in an unsafe area, as they may take off after an interesting scent. Some Black and Tan tend to be aggressive with other strange dogs. There are two types of Black and Tan Coonhounds: show and field. The show types are a bit larger and maybe somewhat less energetic and work oriented, and therefore tend to make better pets. This breed drools and slobbers. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
