Description:
Elle was surrendered to our shelter because her owner was not allowed to have the dog in his apartment. We adopted her out earlier this year, but she recently came back to us, because her owner started traveling a lot for her job. So this sweet loving little chihuahua is looking for a great home.

Foster update: I've only had Elle, aka 'Fuzzy Face'!, since the 10th of March, but she is a real delight. Every time we go to the dog park people say, "Oh, she has a fuzzy face,"  or, "Look at that fuzzy face!" so I'm using that as her call name and she learned it in about 2 minutes. She's smart, loves to go for walks, seems to be completely housebroken and crate trained. Fuzzy is totally reliable to be left home alone and the only thing I've seen her chew up is a piece of paper. She is free in the house 24/7. She's been to the open air market, dog park and my mother's condo, for -off the leash walks in the woods and is very comfortable at all those places. Elle can be suspicious of people she doesn't know, completely normal, but if given a minute or so to get to know the person, she warms right up.
As far as her training goes, she's learned not to bark when I leave the house as I 'set her up" by leaving the house, waited for her to bark, then opened the door and tell her 'no'. She also gets very excited when you pick up her collar and leash to go for a walk but I have taught her to sit and be still and she's almost got that down. I completely ignore when dogs act 'hyper' and don't reward that kind of behavior. She also has/had a 'happy pee' problem but we've worked on that by not petting her when we come home or not paying any attention to her no matter how excited she gets, only petting her when she stands and is quiet. In the last four days, she has not had that problem.
Her personality is a real delight. Fuzzy is very affectionate, loving and loyal. Whomever gets this wonderful little dog is going to have a very funny, very loyal friend. She loves to cuddle either on your lap or in the bed and can be very playful or calm as a lamb. I haven't had the chance to have her around any children, but I suspect she would be better with older kids, seniors, athletes or anyone else. She's a bullet in the dog park, loves to run, comes when called, and interacts very well with other dogs and holds her own with my 45 pound pitbull mix.

I must admit I'm a 'big dog 'person but this little ball of energy has taken my heart and I know she will yours. Fuzzy Face is a joy to be around, giving me many laughs as she will you. I have no problem highly recommending this little girl.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Chihuahua is the oldest breed on the American continent and the smallest breed in the world. Native to Mexico, nonetheless it seems to have been introduced by the Chinese. It was only brought to Europe at the end of the nineteenth century. The Chihuahua is named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua where he was brought to the rest of the world by travelers. This breed is believed to have been sacred to the Pre-Columbian Indian nations. The Chihuahua is a popular, economical companion dog. Courageous, extremely lively, proud and enterprising, it gives and demands affection. Bold and saucy, it moves swiftly to avoid being stepped on. Chihuahua's are strong-willed, intensely loyal and become very attached to their owners, even to the point of jealousy. They like to lick their owner's faces. It is undeniably suspicious of people except for its owner. When strangers are present, it follows its owner's every move, keeping as close as possible. This breed may snap at teasing children, after all it is too tiny to get away. The Chihuahua must resort to his sharp teeth in self defense. It is not recommended for children. He can be noisy and may require patience to housebreak. Many owners simply paper train this breed. The Chihuahua hates the cold and may shiver, although this may be due to high metabolism as much as temperature or anxiety. It will tolerate and even appreciate a warm sweater on cooler days. They are good little dogs for apartment life. Although it is tempting to carry these dainty creatures about, they will keep fitter if taken for walks. A body harness is safer than a collar. Don't think that just because he is small he should be confined to a small space. Chihuahuas have a life expectancy of 15 or more years.
