Description:
Snoop Dog is a beautiful lemon Beagle whom was rescued from a high kill shelter. This sweet beagle is very loving and has a moderate energy level. We hope to find an amazing home for him soon!

Foster Update:  Snoop Dog is a very sweet and cute boy.  He continues to
progress as his confidence builds.  He is getting better transitioning to different places and overcoming his fears and jumpiness.  He has a sweet and silly personality.  He loves people and likes to snuggle up.  He has also become a dog park favorite with all of my weekday morning crew of dogs and friends.  I finally heard him bark for the first time a couple of days ago when he was playfully engaging one of the other dogs.  His overzealousness with female dogs has also improved!  He is an irrestible cutie that you must meet and deserves a wonderful, loving home!

  • Leash Manners - Walks pretty well on the leash.  He doesn't pull unless he is fearful of what is ahead, and in that case he pulls back.
  • Crate/House Training - He is house and crate trained.
  • Socialization - He is good with people (kids too) as long as they approach him calmly and quietly and it helps to kneel to his level or sit with him on the floor.  He gets along well with other dogs and we are not sure about cats.
  • Energy Level and Exercise - He has a moderate energy level.  I take him to the dog park almost daily and walk him around the neighborhood almost daily, but it doesn't seem that he would "require" that much exercise.
  • Daily Structure and Schedule - I am home with him most of the time, but he would be fine crated for a few hours at a time.  He eats twice a day (morning and night), @ 1/2 cup of dry food mixed with some water and a bit of wet food.  He sleeps all night.
  • Confidence Level - He is confident with other dogs, but not dominant.  He gets along very well all the dogs we have met so far.  He tends to "like" the female dogs a bit too much!  However, he is submissive with people.
  • Obedience Training - He doesn't seem to know any commands, but is generally well mannered.  When he doesn't respond it is either due to fear or he is extremely focused on what he is doing.
  • Behaviors - The only bad habits he has that we have come across is trying to put his paws up on the counter to sniff at food.  He also still VERY interested in female dogs (hopefully his recent neutering will help with that!)!
  • Personality Quirks - He is still pretty fearful and shy, especially of loud, sudden, or strange noises and new surroundings.  He is very hesitant about transitioning in/out of the house and car.  I think all of this will improve as he begins to feel more comfortable and confident with the routine and surroundings.
  • Ideal Home - I think he would do well with almost any home.  He would be fine with kids as long as the kids are supervised and and old enough to be educated about how to approach and treat him so that he can continue to grow in his confidence.

Like many dogs in the South, Snoop Dog is heartworm positive, but don't let that stop you from adopting a great dog. We are treating him with monthly heartworm preventative, our preferred method. Many heartworm positive dogs go on to lead long and healthy lives.

PRBJ treats ALL of our dogs with monthly Heartworm preventative. HW+ dogs are treated with the recommended slow method, using monthly HW preventative as it is gentler on the animal’s system than the more invasive, injection method. Most dogs that are Heartworm positive can lead healthy, normal lives if the disease is caught early and treatment began. There are different options to treat HW and new owners may choose to redirect their type of treatment with direction of their vet.  All HW+ dogs have a HW slow treatment info sheet in their adoption folder which will be provided to new owners.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Beagle is one of the most popular scent hounds because of his energy, willingness, and merry, sweet disposition. The breed probably originated as a cross between the Harrier and other hounds in England. The Beagle has been used in packs, alone, and in pairs, for hunting hare, pheasant and quail. He has also served as an excellent narcotics detection dog and makes a fine family companion. The Beagle is a gentle, sweet, lively and curious dog that just loves everyone! A happy little tail-wagger! Sociable, brave and intelligent. Calm and loving. Excellent with children and generally good with other dogs, but should not be trusted with non-canine pets, unless they are socialized with cats and other household animals when they are young. Beagles have minds of their own. They are determined and watchful and require patient, firm training. This breed doesn't like being left alone. Consider buying two if you will be gone a lot. A Beagle has a loud baying cry that was a delight to hunting horsemen, but can be disturbing to family and neighbors. Beagles have a tendency to follow their own noses. They may take off on their own exploration if let off their leash in an unfenced area. Energetic and possessing great stamina, the Beagle needs plenty of exercise, but a yard of reasonable size will take care of most of its requirements. A brisk daily walk will cover the rest. Always use a lead when walking this breed or you will be running the risk of it disappearing in search of wild game. They have a life expectancy of about 12-15 years.
