Faith and her daughter Love came to us after a tragic event.  If you've been following the news closely, you may have read the under-reported story of a 50-year-old Sanford man who was attacked, dragged out of his car and beaten with a hammer, then left to die in the woods. He'd moved to Sanford after his wife and child were killed in a car accident, and now he lays in the hospital in a coma, fighting for his life. His extended family lives in North Carolina and Texas; his only local family are his two dogs, cat and bird. His landlord kindly offered to take care of the cat, but there was nowhere for the dogs and bird..... Enter Judy. She was contacted by the landlord and brother, asking her if she could help. If you know Judy, you know the answer. She met the police officers at the home to pick up the animals. She'd been told that the dogs were Chihuahuas, but they appear to be Manchester Terriers or MinPin, mother and daughter. The bird is a sun conure. That is all we know. Obviously Judy was not allowed to take any paperwork out of the home and doesn't even know their names. The family has asked Judy to find a home for the two dogs as it is unlikely that the gentleman will recover enough to be able to care for them again. Since they need names, Judy has named them Faith and Love, and the bird is named Charity, since that is what it will take to heal our land. Please keep this gentleman in your prayers. As always, any donation to the care of these and our other pets is greatly appreciated.

Faith and Love are currently being cared for by one of our wonderful fosters.  Here is what she has shared with us about Faith and Love:

  • Love really enjoys being outside and exploring the yard
  • Both Faith and Love are very affectionate, love to snuggle and curl up next to you on the couch and be near you for belly rubs
  • Love prefers to be pet softly and with flat hands, as she is sensitive when touched using your fingertips
  • Both Faith and Love are very well socialized and play well with children, cats and dogs of all sizes (even large breeds!)
  • Faith is a protective Mama when it comes to Love and is the one to set boundaries with other dogs or new people
  • Faith is the more vocal one of the two and will alert you to unfamiliar noises, especially a knock on the door
  • Love is a bit shy with new people at first but Faith is outgoing and barks until she is picked up and introduced!
Faith qualifies for our senior for senior program. If adopted by a senior person (55 +) her adoption fee will be $75.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Miniature Pinscher is not related to the Doberman Pinscher, and is in fact an older breed than the Doberman. Developed in Germany from terrier breeds, including the German Pinscher, the Miniature Pinscher's original use was in hunting rats to keep the population down in the stables that it frequented. Italian Greyhound blood may have been added to produce such a tiny, high stepping-dog. The word "Pinscher" means "terrier" in German. Today the MinPin's high spirit and bright personality make him a charming companion. Some of the Miniature Pinscher's talents are competitive obedience, watchdogging, and agility. The Miniature Pinscher is a hardy little fellow that is very demanding and headstrong. This proud, overly courageous dog likes to bark. They are loyal to their masters, spirited and alert, with high energy. Intelligent, lively and brave, it is a big dog in a little dog's body. The Miniature Pinscher is moderately protective. Some can be very aggressive with other dogs, but they are generally good with other pets and children provided the children do not pester. They are rather suspicious towards strangers, but their behavior depends entirely upon how they were brought up as young pups. Don't spoil this breed too much or the dog may become a tyrant. The Miniature Pinscher can learn extremely well and wants very much to do so. It is certainly beneficial for its socialization to take the dog to puppy courses where it can meet other dogs and people. You will be amazed at how fast the Miniature Pinscher understands and obeys you. Pay particular attention when housebreaking this little Pinscher, since a little puddle from such a small dog can easily be overlooked; the dog may get the idea that you are happy to accept it fulfilling its natural needs indoors. The Miniature Pinscher is often called "King Of The Toys." Beware, this little dog will chew small objects and may choke on them. Do not overfeed this breed. They are a remarkably healthy breed and have an expected life span of 15 or more years.
