Wow! Can I say it again? Wow!!! Look at Abby! Isn't she gorgeous? I mean, Wow!

"She is a 3 1/2 to 4 year old Great Dane, Black, with beautiful brown eyes and a cute as can be with a kink in her tail. Abby is a good size gal weighing in at about 145, she could stand to lose about 5 lbs. Abby...well I can't say enough good things about her. She is very, very affectionate, well behaved girl. She walks well on leash, sits for her cookies, stays off the furniture, is not distructive and loves other dogs and kids, everyone actually. Seems to be good with cats. She is very mild mannered so would do well with even younger kids 8 and up. She is of course up to date on everything and has finished her heart worm treatment. She is doing great, very healthy and eager to please. She loves to sit up if you stand behind her and let her give you her paw. She LOVES to offer her paw!! Abby is ready to find her new forever humans. She would like another dog as well but not absolutely necessary. She would also like a human that is home most of the time. A fenced yard is mandatory for our girl. She does not like to be outside much and absolutely dislikes the rain and getting her feet wet. She is quite a lady and needs to be coaxed outside in the rain by her humans. She is not the outdoorsy type and really loves to just sit next you and watch you and give nudges and just be loved."

I recommend that, if you think this is the dog for you, you really take your time with the adoption application. Not only do you want to be totally honest, you want to take the time to explain to her why you would be such a great home for Abby. Believe me, this girl is worth it!!!

Did you know that black dogs and cats are the least likely to be adopted? I don't know why that is. Maybe they just don't stand out. That isn't quite an issue for Abby, she'd stand out in any crowd, but it is a sad state of affairs for other black dogs. *** According to dogbreedinfo.com, the history of Great Danes go way back. Incised on some Greek money dating back to 36 B.C. is the image of a dog very similar to the Great Dane of today. The Great Dane is known as the "Apollo of all dogs." In 407 A.D. German Gaul and part of Italy and Spain were invaded by an Asiatic people (the Alans) who brought with them powerful mastiff-like dogs. In Germany especially, where these magnificent animals capable of overcoming bears and wild boars were much admired, a process of selective breeding was begun. The dogs were crossed with Irish Greyhounds, and the issue was the beautiful, large, thin, agile dog known today as the Great Dane. Despite the fact that they are called Danes in English, these dogs have nothing to do with Denmark. The Great Dane is a gentle giant. Dignified, kind, sweet and affectionate, it is playful and patient with children. It loves everyone and needs to be around people. The Great Dane does not bark much and only becomes aggressive when the circumstances require it. A steady dog, responsible and dependable. Brave and loyal, it is a good watchdog. They need plenty of exercise - at least a good walk a day. The expected life-span is about 10 years, although some live 12-13.
