Description:

Queen Belle ended up with Pet Rescue by Judy after her elderly owner was placed in a nursing home. We had never heard of a Munsterlander here at PRBJ until a local animal control called us and said they had one turned in with its breeder's papers.  Realizing her age and that she had spent her entire life in a home, we took her to help her find another home.  Queen Belle is a happy girl who loves other animals and people and likes to lie in the sun and get belly rubs. She had a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament in her back right leg which required orthopedic surgery. She still limps a little, but she does not seem to be in pain.

Volunteer Update 12/29/11: Today we tried Queen Belle out with the cats. She was walked on her leash into the cat room, where she could look at a couple of the cats in crates, but everyone (cats, dog, and volunteer!) would be safe. She sniffed around a bit, but then when she actually got a good look at the cats, she gave a warning bark and backed away--almost like she was afraid of them. If she were to go to a home with a cat or cats, I don't think think she would go after them, but she would need a patient owner to help her socialize with the cat(s).

Update:  We recently received an e-mail from a gentleman in Canada who had this to say about the Munsterlander breed: "You have a real treasure here.  I cannot adopt her as I am in Ontario, Canada and the flight simply too long, but I had two of these dogs some years back and though they are now gone, they live on with great fond memories.  They are really a cross between German short haired pointer and Brittany spaniel. Incredibly smart and respond well to hand signs, etc. They are loveable and need to be part of the pack (family pack). They seem to need to run off steam, and will circle a yard like wildfire from time to time. It is a real joy to watch. They will also "bay", at anything treed, and just may do so when let out for their early morning pee, so not so good for the city when the neighbors are trying to sleep in Sunday morning.  They need a lot of exercise and can run forever, so a dog park is perfect unless you have streams and logs to jump, which is ideal for them!  Try to find her a family if possible, and someone who will let her be a dog in a creek...she will love them forever.."

Queen Belle qualifies for our Seniors for Seniors program!  If adopted by a senior (55+) her adoption fee is $50.
