Red was found as a stray and brought to us.  He's about 10 years old, but still has a lot of life left in him.  He would make an excellent dog for a senior person and he qualifies for our Seniors for Seniors program so his adoption fee is $50, if adopted by a senior.

He is very sweet and good wtih people as well as other dogs.

Foster update 7/19: Well i've had Red for about 3 months now and he is just the sweetest dog!. He enjoys sitting on your lap (only if your petting him) and sleeps under the covers next to me in bed. He is 100% housetrained and i good with my dogs and cats. He loves the dog park and trots around like he owns the place. He enjoys long walks (he may be older but is a good walker and can walk for at least an hour in the full florida heat). He rides great in the car since he goes with me to work every day. He is very affectionate with people but it takes him a bit to warm up, but once your get his love he is a kisser, cuddler and lover! His hair has grown back a bit on his back but its still pretty bare back there and everyone always asks whats wrong with him...i say nothing he just isn't the cutest dog in town. I suspect he might have been burned which will not allow his hair to grow on his back? He doesn't like his nails clipped or ears cleaned but i wrestle him down or have the vet do it. I'm wondering why in all these months no one wanted to adopt him?

Foster update 4/21: Well i have been fostering Red for about 3 weeks now while re has recovered from neglect . He is a wonderful charming dog whom i have fallin in love with. He gets along good with my dogs, my foster dogs and dogs i have dog sat. He does GREAT with cats. We go to the dog park often and he enjoys being independent and wondering all over..he can hold his own with the big dogs! He is housetrained but did mark my house when he first arrived...and has since  not done it. He is a total cuddler and enjoys sleeping righ next to you in the bed under the covers. He loves cuddling in your lap and enjoys attention. I would say he loves his people but in true mini pin style he is also very independent and enjoys his time in the yard or sleeping on the sofa. He is a runner when he gets out the door so he won't be able to be off leash unless in a fenced area! He really is such a cute guy!

As for his medical progess: He was diagnosed with a low thyroid level and is on Thyroid meds. He will need to be on thyroid meds for the rest of his life. This is a very inexpensive medication and anyone whom adopts him will recieve at least a months worth of meds free.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Miniature Pinscher is not related to the Doberman Pinscher, and is in fact an older breed than the Doberman. Developed in Germany from terrier breeds, including the German Pinscher, the Miniature Pinscher's original use was in hunting rats to keep the population down in the stables that it frequented. Italian Greyhound blood may have been added to produce such a tiny, high stepping-dog. The word "Pinscher" means "terrier" in German. Today the MinPin's high spirit and bright personality make him a charming companion. Some of the Miniature Pinscher's talents are competitive obedience, watchdogging, and agility. The Miniature Pinscher is a hardy little fellow that is very demanding and headstrong. This proud, overly courageous dog likes to bark. They are loyal to their masters, spirited and alert, with high energy. Intelligent, lively and brave, it is a big dog in a little dog's body. The Miniature Pinscher is moderately protective. Some can be very aggressive with other dogs, but they are generally good with other pets and children provided the children do not pester. They are rather suspicious towards strangers, but their behavior depends entirely upon how they were brought up as young pups. Don't spoil this breed too much or the dog may become a tyrant. The Miniature Pinscher can learn extremely well and wants very much to do so. It is certainly beneficial for its socialization to take the dog to puppy courses where it can meet other dogs and people. You will be amazed at how fast the Miniature Pinscher understands and obeys you. Pay particular attention when housebreaking this little Pinscher, since a little puddle from such a small dog can easily be overlooked; the dog may get the idea that you are happy to accept it fulfilling its natural needs indoors. The Miniature Pinscher is often called "King Of The Toys." Beware, this little dog will chew small objects and may choke on them. Do not overfeed this breed. They are a remarkably healthy breed and have an expected life span of 15 or more years.
