Clementine comes to us from a kill shelter, along with her two litter mates.  Clementine is a Lab / Border Collie mix which means this is going to be a very active dog who will do well with an active family.

She loves everything -- people, kids, cats, dogs, etc.  Just what you would expect from a Lab puppy.

Foster Update 01/28:  Clementine is doing absolutely wonderful, and is about 80% to being house trained. She gives a little wine when she needs to go out, and as soon as we go outside she knows just what to do. I still let her out whenever she has been in her crate, and after dinner and when she drinks. There is very little that startles this little lady, she is very curious and we recently had a very long and loud thunderstorm and she did absolutely wonderful. There was one big crack of lightening which woke her up, but then she went right back to sleep. She is getting much better with her shyness around larger dogs. She is not playing no holds barred with my great dane. At the dog park she is getting more independent and takes more interest in all types of dogs not just the smaller ones. She is becomming more and more active, really filling into the characteristics of a Border Collie. She loves to chew and if not given the appropriate chew toy, will find something she can chew, but she is a puppy and that is to be expected. We have added a couple new commands to our training sessions, she now knows down on command, is getting better with leave it and we are working on paw. She is very very smart and picks up new commands very quickly. I would strongly, strongly suggest obedience training for her.

The ideal home for Clementine would be a house with a large fenced in yard so that she can play and wear herself out inbetween the long walks and dog park time. The only way I think Clementine would thrive in an apartment is if that person is very very active, a jogger and a walker and somoene who will be able to take her to the dog park or even doggy daycare on a daily basis. When dogs who thrive on exercise do not get enough they start to have behavior issues, and I do not want to see that happen with this sweet little lady.

Foster Update 01/21:  We have had Clementine for two days now and she is just a great great little puppy.  She already knows sit and we are working successfully on the down and the leave it command. She has a lot of border collie characteristics, and anyone interested in adopting her should familiarize themselves with the breed. She is smart as a whip and full of energy, she would be a great dog to do agility or flyball with. We have taken her to the dog park twice now and she loves to run around, but is still a little cautious around larger dogs. She absolutely loves people and will almost immediately roll on her back so you can rub her tummy. She is wonderful in her crate in the evening and when we have to leave the house. We are working on housebreaking and so far she is resonding very well. She is your typical high energy puppy and will make an excellent best friend for the right family who is willing to give a lot of love, exercise and good food.

Foster Update 11/27:
Daisy is so soft and fuzzy!  She wants to be a lap dog. We think she is about 8 weeks old.  She has a slight case of food aggression, but we are working on it.  She loves to play, but is also content to just lay down and sleep near your feet.  She gets along well with our other dogs, cats, and kids.  She will stay in the crate at night, but isn't fond of it.  Once she's housebroken, I think she'd be happier to just roam free inside the house.

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
