Description:
Mirage is a HIGH energy dog.  She needs extensive amount of exercise in a dog park.  She loves the park and runs like lightning.  She needs a way to burn off her energy.  She will need more than the typical dog walk.

Mirage gets along great with other dogs, she is  housetrained, does good in a car, she is a runner.  She loves to run so she would have to be watched when off leash.  She does seem to be ok with cats.  Judy observed this when Mirage was living at her home with cats. But we will cat test again.  She is a beautiful playful dog that deserves her second chance at her forever home.. Mirage also loves to cuddle in bed.

April 2015  Poor Mirage cannot get a break.  She was returned  to PRBJ from her owner, no fault of her's at all....Her owner and the family had no time to give her.    There has to be some loving kind family that will finally give this beautiful dog the forever home that she so desperately deserves.

October 2014 Update:
Mirage, now called Maggie, was adopted from PRBJ as a puppy and has sadly lost her home after her owner passed away.  She is looking for a new home to call her own.  Maybe it is yours?

Mirage is one of a litter of seven puppies we rescued in early July.  Andy and Dr. Danielle quickly stepped forward to foster them ~ they have a soft heart for puppies and for Border Collies.  If we ever rescue a litter of Border Collies they will fall all over themselves!  Without good people like this, we would be so much more limited in how many pets we could rescue.  With puppies, it is especially important to get them into a home environment.  Case in point, this litter is already starting to figure out the potty-outside thing!  Now, we met the momma of the litter ~ she is a Catahoula mix.  Daddy was a rolling stone, so we have to guess, but judging from their appearance and size, we think that he might have been a Saint Bernard!  Whatever he was, this litter is beautiful.  We anticipate they will be ready for their forever home around mid-August.

7/29 Foster Update:
Mirage is the littlest pup in the litter, at almost 5 lbs. She is a red girl with hazel-green eyes and ivory on her chest, toes and muzzle. She's the little girlie who was so sick, and has just about bounced back. Because of her illness, she tended to seek quiet away from the others, but now that she's better, she pounces on the big boys to play.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, despite the misleading name, the Australian Shepherd is not Australian at all, but was developed entirely in the U.S. to work as a herding dog on ranches. It is possible that the name was derived from one of the dog's ancestors. The breed's principal forebears were most likely Spanish dogs that accompanied the Basque shepherds and herds of fine Merino sheep exported to both America and Australia in the early days of the colonies. At some point it probably crossed with Collie stock. It has only recently gained recognition as a distinct breed. Its many talents include, retrieving, herding, watchdogging, guarding, police work, narcotics detection, search & rescue, agility, competitive obedience and performing tricks. Australian Shepherds are easy going, perpetual puppies that love to play. Courageous, loyal and affectionate, they are excellent children's companions that are great with active children. A devoted friend and guardian, for they are naturally protective. Very lively, agile and attentive - they are eager to please, with a sixth sense about what the owner wants. Australian Shepherds are highly intelligent and easy to train. Though aggressive when at work with livestock, the Aussie is gentle with human friends. Australian Shepherds needs lots of exercise and a job to do, as the breed is very intelligent, active and easily bored. They can become nervous and destructive if left alone too much without exercise. They are naturally suspicious of strangers, so they should be well socialized as puppies. Working lines of Australian Shepherds may be too energetic to be suitable pets. Some like to nip people's heals in an attempt to herd them. They are quiet workers, unlike some breeds, which are bred to bark constantly at livestock. This breed is not usually dog aggressive. They have a life expectancy of 12-15 years. This breed is often sensitive to ivermectin; however, the dosage for heartworm preventive is considered safe. Be warned that higher doses of Ivermectin are also used to treat mange and caution should be taken.
