Description:
Cabby has had a rough life in his short 5 years.  Judy found this little guy who had been hit by a car and she just had to take him in.  He is laid back, great with people and good other dogs.  He would love to find a home that he can call his own.

Volunteer update 7/28: Cabby is such a laid back dog. He just wants to be around people and get love. He is fully housetrained and is good on the leash. He actually does not run off so being off lead isn't such a big deal as he doesn't move that fast anyways. Cabby when he first arrived had about 70% of his hair missing and was badly in need of leg surgery. We have since done a femer bone surgery, removed some fatty growths and he has regained about 40% of his hair back. He still has very thin hair on his low back and we're working on getting it all to grow back. He gets bi-weekly conditioning baths for his skin and should be on a multi- vitamin. He is in good health otherwise. Since he has had the femer bone sugery i would not recommend a home with alot of steps because he he ages it will be more and more difficult for him to climb them. These dog is such a sweet love of a dog, he does well with kids and other dogs. He actually gets along with dogs who tend not to enjoy the company of other animals because he is so laid back that they aren't even bothered. I can't say enought how great a dog he is!

Foster update 12/02:  Cabby is such a sweet dog.  He greets you with a tail wag and kind eyes.  If you are looking for a companion to lay at your feet or go for a quiet stroll, this is the guy for you!  Come out and meet him - he would love to be in a "home for the Holidays".

***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April 1899, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
