About Felippo the White Chihuahua

  • Microchipped: Yes
Felippo and his buddy Fil were found as strays wandering the streets. These tiny Chihuahua's seemed to be well cared for but had extremely long nails which were curled into there paws. They have since been seen by a vet and are ready for adoption. Although they came intogether they have a brotherly love hate relationship and we believe they could be adopted seprately as they are not depended on each other.

Here is what Felippo's foster family has to say about him:
• Energy Level: Moderate

• Food: Felippo eats a small amount of Natural Choice adult dry dog food.

• Adaptability: Felippo is still adapting to our home, but he has only been here for a few days. He needs some time to adjust as all dogs do. Because he is a male, he may try to mark new territory, a common behavior that can easily be corrected with a spray bottle or verbal reprimand.

• Behaviors: Other than being suspicious of the bigger dogs and the cats, Felippo does not show bad behaviors.

• Human Social Skills: Felippo gets along well with people but is still shy and unsure of what to expect from them. He is not snippy towards humans.Felippo also is perfectly content with being held and carried about the house.

• Animal Social Skills: Felippo is wary of bigger dogs and cats (given his size, this is understandable.) He is not aggressive. We are working on his socialization skills. He gets along well with our other foster Chihuahua, Fil, but if Fil becomes too obnoxious, Felippo will communicate this and no other problems will ensue.

• Obedience : Felippo walks very well on a leash and seems to enjoy doing so. He does not respond to any other commands. We believe that given his small stature, no one has ever required him to learn basic commands.

• Training: Given a structured schedule and supervision, Felippo is mostly housetrained but has had a few accidents. We are currently working to completely house train him. He is a bit slower to learn commands.

• Personality Quirks : Felippo has recently demonstrated that he enjoys playing with a small tennis ball. If the ball is thrown, he will run after it and pick it up but hasn’t quite mastered the idea of bringing the ball back. He is also a snuggler that enjoys crawling under the covers and laying right up next to you at night.

Sometimes Felippo walks around the house with his tongue peeping out of his mouth.

• Ideal Home: Felippo would enjoy a family setting that would play tennis with him and cuddle at night. A family without a large, excited dog would probably be best.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Chihuahua is the oldest breed on the American continent and the smallest breed in the world. Native to Mexico, nonetheless it seems to have been introduced by the Chinese. It was only brought to Europe at the end of the nineteenth century. The Chihuahua is named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua where he was brought to the rest of the world by travelers. This breed is believed to have been sacred to the Pre-Columbian Indian nations. The Chihuahua is a popular, economical companion dog. Courageous, extremely lively, proud and enterprising, it gives and demands affection. Bold and saucy, it moves swiftly to avoid being stepped on. Chihuahua's are strong-willed, intensely loyal and become very attached to their owners, even to the point of jealousy. They like to lick their owner's faces. It is undeniably suspicious of people except for its owner. When strangers are present, it follows its owner's every move, keeping as close as possible. This breed may snap at teasing children, after all it is too tiny to get away. The Chihuahua must resort to his sharp teeth in self defense. It is not recommended for children. He can be noisy and may require patience to housebreak. Many owners simply paper train this breed. The Chihuahua hates the cold and may shiver, although this may be due to high metabolism as much as temperature or anxiety. It will tolerate and even appreciate a warm sweater on cooler days. They are good little dogs for apartment life. Although it is tempting to carry these dainty creatures about, they will keep fitter if taken for walks. A body harness is safer than a collar. Don't think that just because he is small he should be confined to a small space. Chihuahuas have a life expectancy of 15 or more years.
