Abby was rescued from a high kill shelter. This sweet white Shepherd is so cute and petite!  She is a wonderfully loving dog. She will lay at your feet for hours and she loves to be loved on. She is a very calm dog and doesn't bark much at all. She is friendly with other dogs and loves to go on walks. She is great with kids and would be a wonderful addition to any home.

• Leash Manners - Walks well on leash, but is still learning not to pull. For training purposes, I walk her with a gentle leader.
• Crate/House Training - Abby is crate trained and freely goes into her crate. She has been left out unsupervised and she got into the trash so the crate is essential. 
• Socialization - Abby is great with people of all ages/genders/races, very good with kids and dogs (including smaller dogs). Abby hasn't had much interaction with cats or other animals so I can't say.
• Energy Level and Exercise - Her energy level is moderate. She certainly likes her naps throughout the day but loves to play too. I bring her outdoors as often as possible and she enjoys it.
• Daily Structure and Schedule - Abby is fed twice a day 1.5 cups of food and walked at least 3 times a day.
• Confidence Level - Abby is submissive but will stand her ground. She's a very sweet dog that I can see getting along with any dog that gets along with her. She responds well to new surroundings and likes to meet people and other dogs.
• Obedience Training - Abby understands still, stay, come and paw. Before she goes out she sits and waits so she's not tackling you to go outside.
• Behaviors - Abby has been caught digging a few times but has been corrected each time. When she sees squirrels she does go into prey mode and tries unsuccessfully to climb trees to get to them.
• Personality Quirks - Abby loves to give kisses and is a very lovable dog. If you prefer not to have dog slobber on your face she listens and will stop. She is a sweet, soft dog that would bring a lot of joy to a family/owner.
• Ideal Home - Abby would do well in a home being the only dog or one with other dogs. I'm not sure how she'd do with cats but I would be cautious based on her reactions to squirrels.

Like many dogs in the South, Abby is heartworm positive, but don't let that stop you from adopting a great dog. We are treating her with monthly heartworm preventative, our preferred method. Many heartworm positive dogs go on to lead long and healthy lives.

Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
