Ernest came to our local vet's office from a high kill shelter. Poor guy was all mange-y and was limping for an unknown reason.  His mange has since cleared up and the limp is gone.  X-rays showed no breaks but just a deformity problably from birth or an old injury. He is fully able to use his leg and loves to run/walk! This guy is so sweet, all love and affection. He loves people and other dogs and would be a great family dog!

Foster Update:  It is amazing to me that Ernest has not been adopted yet, he is so sweet and all he wants is love and he has plenty to give.  He is very trainable, overall he is very obedient.  He is very comfortable in his crate.  With some extra training he will be the perfect dog.  He has puppy tendencies so you cannot leave him out of your sight or he will jump on things or chew things, but he's still a puppy and just needs to learn how to live in a home.  He does not like to be on a leash, but is working on it.  He loves to run free and loves other dogs.  He's good with cats if they don't bother him and loves children.  He rides well in the car.  He still needs some work with housetraining, as he can take awhile to decide when and where to go poop and sometimes it was in the wrong place -- like my patio. He is a joy and lovable, perfect for a family as he needs lots of affection.

Foster Update:  Ernest is the sweetest most loving dog.  He gets along great with my two labs.  He loves playing tug-a-war with my younger dog even though he weighs half as much.  He is crate trained and doesn't mind going in his crate.  He isn't 100% house trained but we are working on that.  He walks fine on a leash.  You can tell he hasn't been exposed to a lot of things in the outside world so he is very curious.  He enjoys exploring and hanging out in our back yard but he comes when he is called to come back inside.  For only being 1 1/2 years old he is pretty mellow.

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
