Hi, I'm Emmie!   Wouldn't you like to meet me?   I went to an adoption event this weekend and I even wore a snazzy red vest that said "Adopt Me" but nobody did.   I'm in a nice foster home and all, but what I really want is my very own family furever and ever.   There are other dogs living here and I really like Minnie, who is close to my size and loves to run around and play with me.    I can be a bit choosy with other dogs but I just need to warm up to them.   I do seem to have a high prey drive, being part Hound and all, so cats might be a bit TOO interesting to me.    I love having my people around as much as possible and I really would like to sit on the couch with them or even in their lap.   I still have some manners to learn but I am trying.   It's just hard to remember that I can't put my feet up to get closer to people or that the yummy smells in the kitchen aren't always for me.   Some things scare me and I am not always sure about new people but if you just give me a chance and some patience, I will give you kisses and be your very best friend!

Emmie was surrendered to a high kill shelter along with her nine babies. She came to us very underweight.  We were told she is shy but very sweet, she is good with other dogs, crate-trained and house-trained.  We were advised that if you do have another dog, it would be wise to feed dogs separately and give bones/toys separately. However, she does love the companionship of another dog and would be very happy in a home with another canine buddy~

FOSTER UPDATE Nov. 7th:   Emmie learned very quickly from the other dogs and is fully housetrained.     She is sweet and loving and loves to be petted.  I tried interesting her in a ball but she had zero interest in it.  She does like nylabones but I suggest she be separated or in a crate.     We brought in a new foster dog yesterday, close to Emmie's size, and she adapted quickly after their introduction.    She tries to catch lizards and squirrels but try is the key word!    We are still working on the counter surfing (best to not leave her unsupervised if any food out) and also she likes to put her front legs on your lap so we are working on that.  She is gentle about it but definitely not the lap dog she thinks she is.  Emmie will make a wonderful companion and has lots of love to give.    She can be shy and cautious with new people at first.    We have found the thundershirt to help with this somewhat but again, with some time and patience, she should do better with this.

We have been fostering Emmie for a couple of weeks.   She is still learning to let us know that she needs to go out but is pretty much housetrained.   She can get a bit anxious in her crate but we have been working with her on that and she eats in her crate and stays in there until we are all done eating.  I also put her in there a couple of times a day, as well as other foster dogs and as long as they stay quiet, I give a small treat every few minutes.    She is doing better and even goes in the crates on her own to lie down as we leave the doors open all day.  She does have some separation anxiety but I do feel it is something that she can get past with patience and time.    She also is fearful of storms and terrified of fireworks.   We have tried a thunder shirt and today I am trying "calming pills" for the first time.   She is wedged under my desk chair and shaking a bit.   Again, something she will need some patience with.    We have 4 smaller dogs and she is fine with them both inside and outside. We also have a dog close to her size and when that dog was gone for a couple of weeks, Emmie was a bit mopey.   She did major zoomies, jumping and running, when she came back! She sleeps on a comforter on the floor next to our bed and has to be reminded once in awhile that she needs to stay on the floor, haha, but she does real well at night.     She knows some basic commands and learns quickly.  She does need supervision around food as she is interested in counter-surfing but she has made alot of improvement in this area as well.
