Foster Update 11/18/14:

More commands:

Paw or shake / talk to me or tell me

Things I don’t like:

Feeling confined like when a blanket is put over me or long hair is in my face(I may give a low growl & nip to let you know ‘stop’)

Not crazy about bath time and will try to climb up into my human’s arms but I am good other than trying to escape.  When getting dried off with the towel I don’t like my feet bothered too much.  He does like to assist my daughter is drying off her legs and feet after her bath.  Too cute.

Hansel also seems to have separation anxiety.  My son says Hansel cries when I leave and he thinks he is alone.  He will stop when he sees my son or another family member but if he is shut out of a room (the bathroom for instance) he may cry.

He has become more vocal when letting us know what he wants.  He does not carry on for no reason though- he is not a yapper.

Foster Update:

We look Hansel to the pet store and bought him some gourmet cookies.  He was a wonderful boy the entire time.  He never pulls on his leash or tries to run off with you while walking. He shows little to no interest in the cats and remains calm and quiet most the day.  He does excited when you encourage him with happy voices and treats.  He does not bark unless prompted by food or real excitement.  However, he does not continue barking and is easy to hush.  He is very smart. He is happy to trot along- side of you either in the house, yard or on a walk.  Snuggling is one of his favorite things!  Precious and such a love.  Bedtime is such a pleasure.  He enjoying cuddling and just being rubbed and loved. Hansel loves car rides and sitting in your lap.  He also loves people food but it upsets his tummy. The most vocal he has been was at breakfast when we had smoked salmon.  He was so excited, we gave him a bite.  He does beg so be prepared to say ‘NO’ to his precious pouting face. Hansel is wonderful with children as long as they are gentle.  Although he doesn’t seemed to get bothered by busy children and happy boisterous voices.  His ear are always alert except for when he is at rest and his tail always wags hello.   Despite his age, he is active and ready to join in on any and all family activities, even if it is watching a movie and chilling out.  What a sweet, wonderful dog.

A note from Hansel:

Please remember I am old and I need frequent potty breaks.  I do not mean to have an accident now & then but it does happen.  I do not potty in bed at night but PLEASE take me out to pee pee when you get up in the night for a glass of water or to use the bathroom.  I will hold it but I do sleep better if I am not wiggling to hold it. Also, I love to explore so be sure to keep the trash can out of my reach.  Those tissue you toss out are far to interesting and fun to tear up.  I can’t resist. I have been making friends with the cats and one of them really kind of likes my company.  My foster kids love to play with me and talk to me all the time.  I do not particularly like my paws touched but don’t mind gentle stroking during snuggle time.  I do not like my mouth messed with too much (I got cotton in my teeth or tissue probably and my foster Dad tried to assist and I did NOT like that)  I DO like my face gently rubbed though.  My foster Mom puts me to sleep with massages and kind hands.

Hamsel, is very affectionate likes to cuddle gets along with all the dogs , not very interested in cats. Very alert would be a great fit for an adult family or person living in a apartment or assisted living.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Chihuahua is the oldest breed on the American continent and the smallest breed in the world. Native to Mexico, nonetheless it seems to have been introduced by the Chinese. It was only brought to Europe at the end of the nineteenth century. The Chihuahua is named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua where he was brought to the rest of the world by travelers. This breed is believed to have been sacred to the Pre-Columbian Indian nations. The Chihuahua is a popular, economical companion dog. Courageous, extremely lively, proud and enterprising, it gives and demands affection. Bold and saucy, it moves swiftly to avoid being stepped on. Chihuahua's are strong-willed, intensely loyal and become very attached to their owners, even to the point of jealousy. They like to lick their owner's faces. It is undeniably suspicious of people except for its owner. When strangers are present, it follows its owner's every move, keeping as close as possible. This breed may snap at teasing children, after all it is too tiny to get away. The Chihuahua must resort to his sharp teeth in self defense. It is not recommended for children. He can be noisy and may require patience to housebreak. Many owners simply paper train this breed. The Chihuahua hates the cold and may shiver, although this may be due to high metabolism as much as temperature or anxiety. It will tolerate and even appreciate a warm sweater on cooler days. They are good little dogs for apartment life. Although it is tempting to carry these dainty creatures about, they will keep fitter if taken for walks. A body harness is safer than a collar. Don't think that just because he is small he should be confined to a small space. Chihuahuas have a life expectancy of 15 or more years.
